More 2011 seniors from recent shoots…

Class of 2011, it’s your SENIOR year! I hope it is awesome for each and every one of you. Enjoy all of the special moments - the year will fly by and you will be walking at graduation before you know it.
Jessica Barlow Photography is offering custom senior portraits again this year. Each session is tailored uniquely to each student - choose your location(s), have as many clothing changes as you’d like - don’t worry, you won’t be the only one that brings your whole closet!, and have FUN in a relaxed and laid back session. Your session is about YOU and your individual personality and style…no cookie cutter senior pics here! JBP offers the option of a one location session or two. Single locations may include larger areas that require some driving; two locations are usually shot separately - one evening per location - the two are usually not necessarily close together. For example, many seniors this year are enjoying the Blue Ridge Parkway for scenic, natural settings; and the streets of downtown for a trendy, urban flair. We are happy to give you a list of location suggestions, but we also love to shoot new places and ones that have special meaning to you.
Single location sessions are $70 and includes travel up to 40 miles to one location. The location may have several “stops” along the way, as is the case in shooting on the Parkway. The session fee also includes hand retouching of your images and an online proof gallery for you to preview your proofs. Prints can be ordered a la cart from our product list. JBP offers desk and gift prints, wall prints, framing, canvas, gallery wraps, and coffee table books and albums. The session fee for two locations is $85 and includes the above with the addition of another location of your choice - each location within 40 miles of Wilkesboro. There is an additional travel fee of $20 per half hour for additional drive time to further locations.
Sessions are available Monday through Saturday evening. Start time for sessions will depend on the location. It’s starting to get darker, earlier, so the start times for sessions will be adjusted accordingly through the fall.
For students interested in having shots taken at the high school, permission for the shoot must be secured in writing from the school, by the senior or the senior’s parents.

Kaden and Chloe recently visited the studio for some summer sibling portraits and to capture Chloe as she is turning a year old. I adore these kiddos! They are so spunky and full of the biggest smiles. Check out a few from their session:
Kaden was awesome showing little sis the “ropes.”. Thanks for all of your help, Kaden! You were a rock star!!

Mr. Handsome!

Happy Birthday, sweet baby girl! Check out the cute outfit mom brought for the b-day pics!

JBP is excited to announce it’s sets for the 2010 holiday season. This year, we are offering two sets - you choose your favorite for your mini shoot. Each set is not particularly themed, so you can make them Christmas-y with clothing or additional props (provided by the studio), or simpy go for a classic winter look. The first set provides a light neutral backdrop in shades of creme, tan, and white. All colors and types of clothing will work with this drop. In particular, we love it with red, burgandy, chocolate brown, creme, denim, black, grey, and dark green. Remember that simple is best for portraits.
Our second set utilizes a beautiful black on black tone damask backdrop and velvet red swan sofa. Children can wear their Christmas PJs and “sleep” as if awaiting Santa; or pose in their favorite holiday outfit, seated on the sofa. More holiday flair can be added by placing milk and cookies for Santa beside the sofa as the children “sleep.” This set is particularly great for newborns to curl up asleep on the sofa wearing one of our Christmas sleep hats. (Props will be provided by the studio.)
The children’s holiday mini session* is $150 and includes your sitting fee, an 8×10, 4 5×7s, and 8 wallets. Special edition add ons to the package include:
- a 3″x3″ hard cover mini accordian album for $35 (regularly $45)
- custom designed holiday cards sized 5×7, with envelopes and personalized text on fine linen paper $55 for a set of 24
- 20% discount on any additional a la cart art and desk sized prints and mounted wall prints
*holiday mini sessions are for children only; family sessions are currently booking outdoors for the fall
We are now booking holiday sessions. It is not unusual for us to completely book up by the end of September/first of October. As of today, we are already about 1/3 of the way booked for the 2010 holiday minis. Call or email us today to reserve your best time slot. Sessions are available throughout the month of November, Monday through Friday 5pm-9pm and Saturdays 8am-9pm. For return before Christmas, orders must be placed no later than Saturday December 11th.
Below are some sample shots of the sets, as well as some custom card designs we will be offering.

Here’s the second edition of our “What to Wear” tips for fall family sessions. Tomorrow, look for the debut of our 2010 Christmas sets and a few samples from our holiday card designs.

One of the most often asked questions from clients is “what should we wear to our session?” This is a great question! It is best to coordinate clothing rather than go matchy-matchy. Coordinating outfits, with a mix of colors, designs, and textures, add interest to an image. I usually suggest that clients pick a few colors that look nice together and build the family wardrobe for the shoot around that. Sometimes it is as simple as finding one outfit you really love and then finding items in that color scheme or tone that will work for everyone else. Layers are always great - they work especially well in the fall and winter to keep families warm during a shoot. Don’t be afraid of coats and jackets that work with the overall feel of the clothing you have chosen. Hats, scarves and accessories are nice too - especially on babies and small children. Solid colors are a nice way to keep it simple, but adding in subtle plaids, stripes, polka dots, etc. will add more interest and variety to your shot. I’m a huge fan of texture - cable knits, corduroy, denim, wool, etc.
I am going to start adding a “what to wear” section on the blog to help give you an idea of what things work well for photoshoots. I will try and have a couple of editions for each season. Please note that these are suggestions and in no way do you have to go with certain brands, styles, etc. More than anything, I hope these will be a display of how to work with coordinating colors. Always choose clothing and outfits that fit the style of you and your family. I do try and use brands that are easily accessable via local stores or the Internet.

We are currently booking appointments for our annual fall family sessions. These sessions will take place in the early evening at the location of your choice throughout the months of September and October.* JBP offers locations all across the western and central part of the state. Popular locations include, but are not limited to, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Tharpe’s Mill, Wilkes Community College Cabin Stage and Gardens, and the Moses Cone Manor and Estate. Fall is a perfect time to take advantage of the colorful foliage - it really doesn’t get any better than God’s natural backdrop of beautiful reds, yellows, oranges, and browns. Appointments are limited and available upon a first come, first served basis. Call or email us today to book your slot. The session fee for the family sessions is $70 and includes family and individual child portraits. Child-only sessions are also available.
*Fall family sessions are not available in studio.
It’s hard to believe that another summer is behind us…this one is especially bittersweet for me because my oldest will start school tomorrow. (I don’t know how well his little brother and I are going to handle this!) It has been a wonderful summer, though - with lots of new experiences and adventures. I think summertime holds some of the best memories from my childhood…nothing like sweet summer when you are a kid! Hope you have had a great one as well! Best of luck to all the students of 2010-2011!!
